The Timeless Elegance of Kanchipuram Pattu Sarees
A Legacy of Royal Weaves
Kanchipuram Pattu sarees, also known as Kanchipuram silk sarees, are among the most treasured textile traditions of India. Originating from the temple town of Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu, these sarees are renowned for their rich silk fabric, intricate zari work, and vibrant hues. Woven with pure mulberry silk and real silver or gold zari, each saree is a testament to the weaver's craftsmanship and the town's centuries-old legacy.
The Weaving Artistry
The making of a Kanchipuram saree involves an elaborate and meticulous process. Typically, the body and the border of the saree are woven separately and then delicately interlocked together—a technique known as "Korvai." This not only adds to the saree's durability but also allows for contrasting color combinations. Traditional motifs such as peacocks, elephants, temple borders, and mangoes are often featured, echoing South India’s cultural and spiritual heritage.
